In this image, Alan Boyd presents a safety plaque to Dave Michaels, St. Louis division manager. Division employees were acknowledged for their excellent 1978 safety record during a ceremony that took place at the new St. Louis station on April 4, 1979.
According to Amtrak NEWS, the division "received a three-foot-high traveling trophy as well as a permanent plaque." Everyone enjoyed a buffet luncheon and each person received a first aid kit. Representatives from the Kansas City and Fort Worth-Dallas mechanical facilities also received awards for achieving an entire year with no injuries.
