Alexander Kummant served as the eighth president of Amtrak from 2006 to 2008. Prior to Amtrak, Kummant worked as a regional vice president and general manager of Industrial Products at Union Pacific Railroad, and chief marketing officer of Komatsu America Corporation, a construction equipment supplier.
Under his leadership, Amtrak launched the Great American Stations program to foster partnerships with local communities wishing to invest in their stations; initiated deployment of mobile security teams to patrol trains; held the first National Train Day; and completed a multiyear project to replace the Thames River Bridge lift span along the Northeast Corridor in Connecticut.
