Artwork for the South-Belle.

Original promotional artwork depicting scenes from the South. Ink pen and watercolor on paper. Dates to the late 1970s.

Artwork for the South-Belle.
This original artwork, created for Amtrak Marketing by the advertising firm of Great Incorporated, was probably commissioned for use in a tour brochure. It depicts typical scenes from the South including a jazz musician; old fashioned paddle boat; and a "southern belle." The locomotive wears the Phase II livery introduced in 1975. Two versions of this drawing exist. The southern belle was later covered up with a drawing of a townhouse reminiscent of those found in New Orleans' French Quarter.
