Chicago-Detroit service discount fares flyer, 1977.

Two-color printed paper flyer issued in September 1977 to promote discount round-trip coach fares on trains between Detroit and Chicago including the Saint Clair and the Wolverine.

Chicago-Detroit service discount fares flyer, 1977.

Throughout the year, Amtrak offers discounts on various routes to encourage people to try or reacquaint themselves with intercity passenger rail. On the back of the flyer, Amtrak notes that passengers could use credit cards to buy tickets in stations or use them for food and beverage in dining and club cars. The company only accepted one credit card when it began operations in May 1971, but quickly signed contracts with American Express, Master Charge, Carte Blanche, BankAmericard and Diners Club.
