A handwritten note on the back of the original photograph reads: "Typical Florida Train." From the start, Amtrak heavily promoted travel to Florida; efforts included the Week of Wheels in Florida, Florida Carrousel and Villa Vacation packages, which generally combined Amtrak travel with car and housing rentals.
A sample of Florida-bound trains in the mid-1970s included the Silver Star (New York-Miami/St. Petersburg); Silver Meteor (New York-Miami); Champion (New York-St. Petersburg); Miamian (New York-Miami); and Floridian (Chicago-St. Petersburg/Miami). This image may depict the Silver Meteor, which is shown in a similar landscape in this photograph also held in the Archives.
