Heartland Flyer in the snow, 2000s.

In this image, the Superliner-equipped Heartland Flyer travels between the stations at Ardmore, Okla., and Gainesville, Texas, on a picturesque, snowy day. The Heartland Flyer was initiated in June, 1999, restoring passenger rail service to Oklahoma for the first time since the discontinuance of the Lone Star (Chicago-Dallas/Houston) in 1979. The state of Oklahoma has funded the service since its inauguration and was joined by Texas in 2006. In October, 2013, the train celebrated its one millionth passenger.
