California Zephyr near Crescent, Colo., 1980s.

This slide, part of a set commissioned by Amtrak Marketing, depicts the California Zephyr (Chicago-San Francisco) in a snowy scene near Crescent, Colorado. The F40PH locomotives leading the train wear the Phase III paint scheme introduced in 1979, while the bi-level Superliner cars are a mix of Phase II (introduced in 1975) and Phase III. Crescent, located in Boulder County, is between the Amtrak stops at Denver and Winter Park-Fraser.
