San Diegan advertisement, 1980s.

The San Diegan was one of the named passenger trains of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Its 126-mile route ran from Los Angeles, Calif., south to San Diego, from March 27, 1938, until 1971. Amtrak continued to operate the San Diegan service until the name was retired on June 1, 2000, and replaced with "Pacific Surfliner."
