In this image, the Colonial, led by E-60 electric locomotive No. 968, makes a stop at the Capital Beltway station in the Maryland suburbs northeast of Washington, D.C. Opened by the Penn Central Railroad in 1969 as a stop for the high-speed Metroliner Service, the Capital Beltway station was closed in late 1983 when Amtrak and MARC commuter rail moved to a new intermodal facility in New Carrollton, Md. also served by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) trains and buses.
