BWI Rail Station dedication booklet, 1980.

Printed paper booklet created for the dedication of the BWI Rail Station on October 23, 1980; from the Ann Owens Collection. Considered the nation's "first intercity air-rail-ground transportation" facility, the station ushered in a new era of intermodal transportation centers by allowing for easy transfers between air, rail and public transportation services, while also offering ample parking. Attendees enjoyed music as well as tours of the station, airport and Baltimore's revitalized Inner Harbor.

"Peanut Special" menus, 1977.

Two-color printed paper menus (breakfast, lunch and dinner) created for the special charter train known as the "Peanut Special" that carried supporters of president-elect Jimmy Carter from Plains, Ga. to Washington, D.C. for his 1977 inauguration. The dinner entrees included southern favorites such as baked sugar-cured Georgia ham with orange slices. From the Ann Owens Collection.

Auto Train summer fares brochure, 1990.

Multi-color paper brochure released on June 19, 1990 to promote "hot fares, cool savings" for trips aboard the Auto Train (Lorton, Va.-Sanford, Fla.). Interior features a drawing of the Dome Lounge car that was part of the consist until the introduction of bi-level Superliner equipment in early 1995. From the Ann Owens Collection.

"Florida Carrousel" Escorted Tours booklet, 1972.

Multicolor booklet with photographs issued in December 1971 to promote "leisurely trips through the sunshine state." It includes descriptions of multi-day excursions from Florida cities including Orlando, Jacksonville and St. Petersburg. "The Carrousel concept is something new in leisure travel...pick any tour or any combination." From the Ann Owens Collection.

Broadway Limited route guide, 1977.

Two-color printed paper route guide issued in January 1977 for the daily Broadway Limited (New York/Washington-Chicago). Guide offers brief descriptions of cities and towns along the route, as well as a map and photographs. From the Ann Owens Collection. The train took its name from that of a predecessor run by the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Amtrak Broadway Limited was discontinued in 1995.

Lake Shore Limited route guide, 1990s.

Two-color printed paper route guide issued in the 1990s for the daily Lake Shore Limited (New York/Boston-Chicago). Guide offers brief descriptions of cities and towns along the route, as well as a map and photo tips. From the Ann Owens Collection.

"Week of Wheels in Florida" brochure, 1970s.

Multicolor printed paper brochure with photographs; dates to the early 1970s, from the Ann Owens Collection. The "Week of Wheels" promotion-or WOW-included round-trip train fare to various destinations within Florida coupled with a car upon one's arrival. According to this version of the brochure, "3 round-trip adult WOW fares gives you a Hornet Hatchback at no additional cost."

Teletrak brochure, 1980s.

Two-color printed paper brochure describing Teletrak; dates to the mid-1980s. From the Ann Owens Collection. Teletrak, a computerized telecommunications program, was introduced in September 1984 to ease communication between travel agents and Amtrak sales consultants. With a simple phone call, agents could learn about ticketing, discounts, advertising and other topics.

Coast Starlight booklet, 1990s.

Multi-color printed paper brochure with photographs. From the Ann Owens Collection; dates to the 1990s or later. Brochure describes accommodations and amenities available aboard the Coast Starlight, such as wine tastings, as well as the diverse landscapes through which the route passes. "The journey begins...long before the first destination is called out by the conductor."

"The Great American Rail Sale" booklet, 1978.

Two-color printed paper brochure describing various fares discounts available in 1978. Organized by routes, which include the Colonial (Boston-Newport News), Broadway Limited (New York/Washington-Chicago) and Adirondack (New York-Montréal). From the Ann Owens Collection.
