Ann Rutledge in the snow.

Stopping at Joliet, Ill., to take on passengers, heading toward Kansas City.

Ann Rutledge in the snow.
Until spring of 2007 the Rutledge operated as part of both the Illinois Service and Missouri Service routes along the full line between Chicago and Kansas City via St. Louis. The train service used the same track as the Kansas City Mule and the St. Louis Mule. In 2009 Amtrak consolidated these trains under the new name, Missouri River Runner. The train was named for Ann Rutledge, a woman from New Salem, Ill., who may have been the first love of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln; the story of Lincoln and Ann Rutledge is a source of continuing debate.
