This slide, part of a set commissioned by Amtrak Marketing, depicts the California Zephyr (Chicago-San Francisco) in a snowy scene near Dutch Flat, California. F40PH locomotive #357, wearing the Phase III paint scheme introduced in 1979, leads the train. One of the baggage cars and some of the bi-level Superliner cars wear the earlier Phase II paint scheme introduced in 1975. Dutch Flat is a small community located between the Amtrak stops at Truckee and Colfax and is designated a California Historic Landmark for its associations with late 19th century gold mining.
Photographer: Unknown for Amtrak.
