This photograph shows F40PH locomotive No. 208 leading the Benjamin Franklin towards Boston. The diesel-electric locomotive wears the Phase II paint scheme introduced in 1975 and pulls Amfleet cars first introduced into service that same year. The northern leg of the Northeast Corridor (NEC) between New Haven, Conn. and Boston was not electrified until early 2000 with the completion of the Northeast High-Speed Rail Improvement Project. Sharon, Mass. is between the stations at Providence and Route 128. Today, trains along the NEC bear the Northeast Regional name, but in the company's early days, they retained names inherited from the predecessor railroads. Photographer: Unknown for Amtrak. From the Amtrak Corporate Collection.
