Train dispatcher using CETC, 1988.

A new Centralized Electrification and Traffic Control (CETC) center opened in Philadelphia in 1987. This 1988 image shows a train dispatcher using the CETC computers to control train routing rather than issuing instructions to local control towers.

In April 2012, the CETC center moved from Philadelphia to the Consolidated National Operations Center in Wilmington, Del. The move included migration to an updated system that improved operational safety of the dispatching system along with technical upgrades that improved the user interface.
