The railroad is a 24 hour operation, and large passenger facilities such as Penn Station in New York City are open around the clock. In the early morning hours, Amtrak Police Sergeants Joseph Robbins (l) and Louis Lupinacci (r) patrol the Amtrak concourse.
Amtrak Patrol Officers make up the majority of the Amtrak Police Department. Working closely with local, state and federal agencies, officers provide assistance to persons in need, enforce governing laws and regulations and ensure a safe environment. Their areas of responsibility include stations, trains, right-of-way and maintenance facilities.
With nearly half a million commuter and intercity passengers passing through its concourses every day, New York Penn Station is the busiest rail hub in North America and a gateway to the nation's largest city.
