Empire Builder route guide, 1973.

Multicolor printed paper route guide issued in June 1973 for the daily Empire Builder (Chicago-Seattle). Guide offers brief descriptions of cities and towns along the route, as well as a fold-out map. From the Ann Owens Collection. Parts of the route were realigned in the late 1970s and 1980s, and therefore some communities listed in this guide lost service while others gained.

Sunset Limited route guide, 1989.

Multicolor printed paper route guide issued in March 1989 for the Sunset Limited (New Orleans-Los Angeles). Guide offers brief descriptions of cities and towns along the route, as well as a map. From the Ann Owens Collection. The Sunset Limited, begun by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1894, is one of the oldest named passenger trains still operating in the United States.

International brochure.

Multicolor printed paper brochure issued for the daily International (Chicago-Toronto); dates 1982-1983. Brochure offers passengers an overview of the service and rail connections in the United States and Canada. The International, jointly run by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada, ran from 1982 until 2004. High-speed Keystone Service invitation, 2006.

Invitation to the inaugural run of new, electrified, high-speed service on the Keystone Corridor (Philadelphia-Harrisburg). Two sided paper bi-fold card, dated October 30, 2006. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Amtrak announced the “Keystone Corridor Improvement Project” in 2004. The goal of the multi-year undertaking was to improve the 104 mile rail line in order to allow for all-electric train service, increase top speeds to 110 mph and add train frequencies including express options.
