Southern Crescent Timetable, 1978.

Two-color printed timetable, from April 1978, issued by Southern Railway shortly after petitioning to discontinue the Southern Crescent. From the Ann Owens Collection. Southern ran this route between Washington, D.C. and New Orleans between 1970 and 1979, at which time it was turned over to Amtrak. The route continues running today as the Crescent. Today's train is the lineal descendant of the Washington & Southwestern Vestibuled Limited, inaugurated on January 4, 1891, by the Richmond and Danville.
