"Sharpshooter" fares flyer, 1970s.

Two-color printed paper flyer promoting discount round-trip coach fares between New York and Montreal or Kissimmee, Fla.; flyer likely dates to the late 1970s.

"Sharpshooter" fares flyer, 1970s.

In promoting discount fares on the Adirondack (New York-Montreal), the flyer emphasized the "sleek" RTL Turboliner equipment: "The Adirondack is everything a train should be, and more: comfortable reclining seats, plush interiors, windows that give a view." Built by Rohr Industries, the RTL Turboliners were delivered to Amtrak in 1976-77 for use in upstate New York on the Empire Service (New York-Albany-Buffalo) and Adirondack. They were modified from the earlier RTG units to include American couplers and standard 480 volt head end power.

Amtrak highlighted Kissimmee's proximity to attractions including Walt Disney World, Sea World and Circus World: "It's a great ride, a great location, and a great price." From its start, Amtrak heavily promoted travel to Florida; efforts included the Week of Wheels in Florida, Florida Carrousel and Villa Vacation packages, which generally combined Amtrak travel with car and housing rentals.
