Black Hawk brochure, 1974.
Multicolor printed paper brochure issued for the start of the Black Hawk (Chicago-Dubuque) on February 14, 1974. The train initially used the self-propelled Budd rail diesel cars pictured on the front of this brochure, but they were later replaced with diesel locomotives and new single-level Amfleet cars. Deteriorating track conditions and heavy freight traffic on the route resulted in poor on-time performance, and service was discontinued in September 1981. From the W. Mike Weber Collection.

"Amfleet: The new spirit of Amtrak" brochure, 1970s.
Printed paper brochure describing amenities on the new single-level Amfleet equipment; likely dates to 1975-1976. Amtrak ordered 492 single-level cars, known as Amfleet I, that were based on the design of the popular Metroliner cars. With tubular bodies and ridged stainless steel fluting, they could reach speeds of up to 125 mph. The Amfleet cars came in five configurations. Courtesy of Brian Roman.
