Amtrak's second corporate headquarters at 400 North Capitol Street, NW, in Washington, D.C., overlooked the U.S. Capitol and Washington Union Station. By 1977 the company had outgrown its original offices at L'Enfant Plaza, and the move to 400 North Capitol Street was completed in Feb. 1978.
As part of the redevelopment of Washington Union Station, Amtrak moved its corporate offices to the historic transportation hub in 1988, where they remained for nearly three decades. In late 2017, Amtrak corporate headquarters moved out of the station and one block away to 1 Massachusetts Avenue, NW.
