Train No. 86 begins its inaugural run of the Richmond, Va. to New York Virginian, which started service on October 28, 1984. This photo was taken at the Richmond station shortly before its 7:00 a.m. departure. The Old Dominion Chapter NRHS sponsored an excursion aboard this inaugural run to Washington, D.C., for a day of riding on the Metro subway and visiting museums. The persons holding the banner in front of the F40 are Old Dominion chapter members.
The consist was: F40PH No. 279, Amfleet I coaches Nos. 21052, 21070, 21107 and 21157, with Amdinette No. 20240.
