Through the financial assistance of the state of Alabama, the Gulf Breeze launched with an inaugural run on October 27, 1989. Between Birmingham and New York, through service was provided via the Crescent (New York-Atlanta-New Orleans). The Gulf Breeze initially served the Alabama communities of Birmingham, Montgomery, Greenville, Evergreen, Atmore and Mobile; stops were later added at Brewton and Bay Minette. The train was discontinued in early 1995 and replaced with Thruway Bus service connecting to the Crescent. From the Ann Owens Collection.
