California Zephyr skirting the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon, Colo., 1980s.

This slide, part of a set commissioned by Amtrak Marketing, depicts the California Zephyr (Chicago-San Francisco) skirting the Colorado River through the famous Glenwood Canyon near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The canyon stretches for approximately 13 miles and has walls as high as 1,300 feet. A natural wonder, it has been a highlight for rail passengers since the late 19th century.
