In this image, the Silver Star is led by E-60 locomotive No. 956, which pulls Heritage Fleet equipment purchased by Amtrak from the predecessor railroads. Although the locomotive wears the Phase II paint scheme introduced in 1975, the baggage, sleeping, dining and coach cars wear the newer Phase III scheme from 1979. At Washington, D.C., the electric E-60 would be switched out for a diesel locomotive for the trip to Florida. The Amtrak Silver Star takes its name from that of a predecessor train inaugurated by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. Photographer: Unknown for Amtrak.
