Classic views of Washington often feature the memorials and monuments rising from a sea of pink and white cherry blossoms. During the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival, visitors are invited to a series of programs highlighting traditional and contemporary arts.

This southbound train, which just departed Washington Union Station, will soon cross the Long Bridge over the Potomac River to enter Virginia. The Long Bridge opened in 1904, the result of a larger effort to consolidate passenger rail services in the city at one station, thereby allowing for removal of the Pennsylvania Railroad depot and tracks from the National Mall, elimination of dangerous at-grade crossings and the creation of an imposing gateway station for the capital.
