Prior to the Vermonter's 7:30 am departure from Washington, the on-board service personnel meet at the crew base to discuss the details of the day's trip and other pertinent information. Here, Conductor Brenda Alexander and Assistant Conductor Jamel Williams confer and review bulletins.
Working together, this team is responsible for the safe movement and operation of the train, the collection and protection of Amtrak ticket revenue, the conduct of the operating and on-board service crews, the boarding and detraining of passengers and the assignment of passenger accommodations. "My passengers are my main priority," says Alexander.
On April 1, 1995, the overnight Montrealer was replaced by the daytime Vermonter. The service is financed primarily through funds made available by the Vermont Agency of Transportation, the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
