Early in the morning, an Amtrak chef prepares hearty breakfast plates that might include scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, fresh fruit, yogurt and other favorites.
The bi-level Superliner dining cars contain a kitchen on the lower level and a dining area on the upper level, with a prep station located in the middle. A dumbwaiter is used to transport food. When the new Superliners first went into service in 1979, the kitchen was noted for its air-conditioning, fluorescent lighting and electric convection and microwave ovens. The kitchen also contained an electric grill, toaster, coffee maker and warming table.
